This remedy is best for when you need to move heat and stagnation, or extra circulation, especially in the pelvic region of the body. It is helpful for toning the tissues, and can aid in lessening hemorrhoids or benign prostate enlargement. It is helpful for reducing PMS symptoms associated with pelvis stagnation like headaches, tension, abdominal swelling. This remedy is also useful for moving stagnation in the spirit held deep in the body from past traumas, unable to let go, and the body responding by holding on, not allowing flow in order to move through.

I’ve been working with it mainly in tea form, throwing a small piece of bark (not much is needed) into a tea blend that I try to drink a few times a week. As a child, I had chronic UTI’s. As an adult, I get them on occasion, and the experience is always re-traumatizing due to a childhood of pain around this infliction. I’ve been working with Ocotillo along with other herbs to repair the emotional traumas associated with this part of my body, as well as physically repair and build up the tissue states of my pelvis as to better prevent UTI’s in the future constitutionally.

The Ocotillo Fouquieria splendens bark was harvested in the Southwest in the early Spring of 2020. Only the tips were harvested which are fresher and have less harsh resins as the remaining body of the plant.

Ocotillo looks like a cactus, but it is actually not, technically. It has tiny leaves that grow quickly and swell when the rains come in the Sonoran desert, but will dry up and fall off if the rains do not persist. The magenta-red flowers of Ocotillo are truly divine, and this plant will flower several times a year if the conditions are right.

Ocotillo wild-tending advice: the tips of this plant can be replanted right back in the soil. So, if you harvest this medicine, you can put tips in the ground to increase the abundance of this plant, or even use this dividing technique to bring this drought-tolerant plant into your garden. I was taught these techniques by the herbalist Doug Simmons.

Cleavers grow all over, and this includes in the riparian areas of the Southwest in the Spring where this harvest came from. Gathered from shady fields next to the Gila River at the height of its prime.

Dosage: 1-3 drops at a time, 3x day , increase slightly if needed

This is a low dose-ish remedy.

Contains:

Ocotillo bark Fouquieria splendens

Cleavers Galium aparine

Apple Cider Vinegar,

Honey, Vodka

why use Apple Cider Vinegar? I have increased my use of ACV in my medicine making to lower the amount of harsh alcohol in my daily medicine intake. Apple Cider Vinegar is a great menstrumm for herbal macerations and combined with honey (called an oxymel) it can taste DAMN GOOD. Herbs infuse well into vinegar, and I only use Organic Apple Cider Vinegar in my preparations.

Avoid use if pregnant.
